Steps You Absolutely Need to Take After a Car Accident
A car accident is an incredibly stressful time. Help calm your nerves by keeping busy to make sure you get fairly treated and compensated long after your accident. Here are tips from Central Insurance about what to do after a car accident.
First, find out if anyone was hurt. Call 911 for an ambulance, if necessary.
After everyone is okay, then worry about your car, and whether you need a car accident lawyer.
Call the police and tell them where the accident occurred. You may need copies of this report later for either your insurance company or your lawyer, in case you have to go to court.
If your car can still move, get it out of the way of traffic.
Next, call your insurance company. They will remind you of what steps you need to take next. Get the make, model, and license plate number of the other car. Get the other driver’s name and contact information. If possible, write down the events of the accident, while they are fresh in your mind.
If you have a camera or a camera on your phone, take photos of the damage to your car, and damage to the other car, or to any property. This way, in case you go to court, you can prove what was damaged and what was not damaged.
